Myron McCormick

Myron McCormick was the only member of the original Broadway cast of SOUTH PACIFIC who remained with the show for its entire run of 1,925 performances - on the last night, at curtain-calls, McCormick announced that the final curtain would never come down on Broadway's SOUTH PACIFIC - He then led the audience in "Auld Lang Syne," after which, eventually, the cast and crew left the stage, and the audience left the theater. And the curtain was not lowered. Something about this just gives me chills. Pure theater at its best, so to speak.

"In my case, self-absorption is completely justified."

Great story

McCormick makes "Sergeants" worthwhile imo. Nothing against the great Andy Griffith, but Stockdale is hard to take at times. The same goes for Adams, still a good actor who is convincing as an annoying whiny nerd. But it's the Sgt. King character, with all of his exasperated reactions and hilarious expressions, that makes me watch this over again.

McCormick was fantastic in this role and without a doubt should have been nominated (and IMO should have won) an Oscar for his performance in this film. He makes the movie and in a cast where everyone was good (even the minor roles..the Generals, doctors, etc) he outshines them all.
