Regarding the end credits, it also says Nancy Tyloe. Did she marry the sheriff? That isn't explained. I may have to watch this one again. Did she marry to give her baby a father? And HOW did she die? They sort of set up a suicide because she doesn't want to be a mother she says, but they certainly don't explain it and the doc is blamed for both deaths. I was very happy rewatching this after 55 years. It was still as suspenseful as I remembered, even if I was not AS scared as I was at 10. But this plot may yet drive me crazy. I love all the red herrings though.

I wondered about that "Tyloe", too. As for how she died, I assumed a botched abortion, either self-induced or performed and deliberately botched by the good doctor.

In the conversation in the opening scene between Jim Tyloe and the undertaker Ed Quigley, Tyloe refers to Nancy and her funeral in a rather light-hearted manner, as if he's talking about an unrelated person, not his own wife. Makes you wonder if they filmed that scene before they wrote the marriage into the script.

This is definitely a mistake in the credits as the two were never married. Nancy herself says she will never get married as she has no interest in being a wife or mother, most especially not to "leftovers" like Jim. The credits also have several other mistakes, like listing "Ed Quigley" as "Ed Guigley" and putting him in the "Dead" category when he's very much alive at the end of the film.
