Ha - love it. Tom asks his brother Jimmy for a pack of "fags", using the United Kingdom slang term of the day for cigarettes.
"The ionosphere somehow interferes with the radios, sir." "Well tell the ionosphere to get the hell off the air!!"
Along the south coast, a pack o' fags still means cigarettes. The other "fags" were the errand boys at public schools. They would be obedient and respectful towards the prefects of the 6th form.
shareAs a young girl I remember my dad and uncles calling cigarettes fags ...this was in the late 50's and early 60's in Kentucky. We always called the trunk of the car a "boot" too...so one of my ancestors must have come from England! I know have several of them born in Boherbue, Cork, Ireland !
I just wish that my dad and uncles....and Patrick McGoohan for that matter, had not gotten to smoking cigarettes.
