Where's the brain of the fly?

Ok, I know this is just a film, but...

after the experiment, we have the fly with the head of the doctor and the body of the doctor with the head of the fly, and both seem to have the intelligence of the doctor: so, where's the brain of the fly?

Hedison's changed character noticed that he had a man's body, half of a left human arm and put two and two together. Although was losing his "human will" by the hour, knowing that the fly brain would take full-effect very soon. Thats the best answer I can muster. I've wondered the same question many times.

reply

He does "type" that he feels that he is very quickly losing his humanity.

As mentioned on another board, how he sees the keys thru his compound fly-eyes is a mystery, especially with the hood over his head.
(He types pretty fast with only one hand, too, but that's a skill many guys have developed . . or so I hear.)

This was a plot hole. Flies can't type

reply

I knew a guy who typed with just his index fingers and was faster than anybody. He still could have typed pretty fast even with just one finger.

I think each had a hybrid brain.

reply

Yeah, I think it's the only rational (???) explanation!

In the film it clearly states that the the man with the fly's head brain is losing his human mind by the hour and is becoming more fly-like. The same can be said for the fly with the head of the man at the the start he probably had the mind of a fly and the human mind was slowly taken over his brain so by the time we see him in the spider's web the human mind have taken full effect

If that makes any sense

reply

that makes sense....and adds to the tragedy at the end - he actually realizes he's going to be eaten by the spider

reply

What makes sense is "It was a plot hole". One plugged by the 1986 version do int he gene-splicer thing. Much more effective and creepy IMHO.

You can see how quickly his head has aged since being on the fly.

Mom tells the kid flies only live a short time. They're kinda sorta trying to make sense.

It's only a movie . . and repeat.

Where's the brain of the fly?

Inside the director's head. :-D

Flies happen to be way more intelligent that we've always thought...

reply

In the remake it was all explained as the result of gene splicing which makes sense when you think about it.

Pretty sure their brain capacities were merged. The little fly with the human head may have gained some speech but probably didn't have as much of his humanity.
