Speakin' of this 'fight' scene ... both were fighting to the death until the boy came along. What did the 'winner' think he was going to do chained to a corpse ??
They may not have been edumacated but they weren't THAT stupid were they ?

'Big Sam' (Chaney Jr) cuts the rope which keeps the 2 captive.... what a joke the rope/knots were !! They could have escaped any time they wanted !!
