Is Maggie really pregnant?

OK, now that we're settled on the Brick-gay issue ;), is Maggie really pregnant?
Or does the movie end with Brick and Maggie going up to make love, and trying for a baby?

B. They haven't been trying, and apparently assume they won't have much trouble "sealing the deal." They would want to be at least showing before the old man kicks the bucket, though, so they need to get to work.

People make a big deal out of Tom Cruise's and Brad Pitt's kid what kind of three ring circus would an Elizabeth Taylor Paul Newmann baby bring?

reply

That would've been one beautiful baby, but I can't see any way Paul Newman would've put up with Elizabeth Taylor (romantically) in real life. He was so down-to-earth and grounded that a neurotic, high-maintenance drama queen like her would've sent him running for the hills within a few days, even if he hadn't been in love with someone as beautiful, talented (and just as grounded as he was) like Joanne Woodward.

Paul Newman has at least one daughter that I know of and she is the most beautiful woman. Has his eyes, too.

AIR GO!!!

He had a son too, Scott (from his first marriage). Sadly, his son got caught up in drug addiction and died. Very sad, sad story and circumstances.... but the parents wanted other parents to be aware of what drug abuse can do - no matter who you are, what background or privileges your child has....

There is a foundation named after him: Scott Newman Center/Scott Newman Foundation.

She lies about it to quell the anger and hostility in the household, plus it made for a fine howdoyado to ol' Mae, the sisterwoman;-) She wanted to make a dyin' man happy. The look on her face was priceless. I took the ending to mean that Brick didn't want to make a liar out of an honest woman; quite possibly the only honest person there. How noble of him; wink, wink;-)

reply

Maggie is not pregnant.

After Brick calls her upstairs, she thanks him for "backing up my lie." And, as Brick tells her, there are no more lies or liars in that house, so they have to get busy and turn the lie into the truth.

Then they get on with the baby makin'

LOL; ZenRebel, you put it better than I sure did, LOL:-)

yeah it would've been intersting to see what a frenzy a baby from Paul & Liz would've been in real life though when they first met during the rehearsals for the film he was a newly married grieving father to be who had lost his unborn child and she was sterile after the difficult birth of her youngest child Liza 8 months earlier

yeah Maggie's pregnancy announcement at the end of the film is a lie which had to be a painful one for Paul to hear as he had just lost a child in real life and felt guilty that he had to leave Joanne in London to recover from that loss alone

"why are you married to him then if you can't work with him how do you live with him?"

reply

She got pregnant the same night just after the movie ended. Brick was gay only in the play, not in this movie.

reply

we don't know that as there was never a followup
