Good point but I wouldn't say Brick never gets drunk because it depends on how much a drinker is able to hold his drink and Brick seems to be a drinker well accustomed to alcohol moreover you got to consider the way you drink whisky because it affects the jag's level, for instance at the beginning of the movie we see a badly drunk Brick who used to drink direct from the bottle in this case you're gonna get drunk quickly no way (in fact he couldn't stand up) but later we see Brick drinking whisky from a glass with a lot of ice in it and quoting Maggie's words the movie is set in a "sticky heat" so all that ice is gonna melt fast making the whisky badly watered-down, moreover Brick just sips it and from time to time he has a shower which builds him up so to sum up I don't consider his behavior as a drunk unrealistic but yes sometimes Newman seems to be excessively sober for me as well.

Yeah, once drinking becomes an everyday habit, especially if you're a whiskey drinker, your body becomes accustomed to it and you start to get less and less drunk from it, much like how you need to start taking more medication as time passes because a single pill won't do the trick anymore from taking them regularly.
