Remember the era in which it's set in. Maggie came from a poor background. To marry into a rich family opened up opportunities she otherwise would not have had. In that time, a young woman would have had very few chances to make it on her own. Plus she genuinely loves Brick and wanted to make it work. This leads to her being frustrated both emotionally and sexually due to Brick's breakdown and his inability to connect with her on any level
