Anyone watching this on TCM?

I was surfin' and found this on TCM...I haven't seen it for a long time but from what I remember, it was pretty darn good!

TCM had "Father of the bride" on before this so it must be a "Taylor" thing...She sure was Hot back in the day!

I'm sure watching it and love it as always. It's not a "Taylor" thing it's a "31 days of oscars" thing. This movie got robbed at the Oscar's though!

reply

Really...I'm afraid I'm not familiar with its Oscar history...I would have thought it garnered ~5....No??

Yes nominated but couldn't bring them home. Many have stated Elizabeth received the Oscar for Butterfield Eight to make up for Maggie the cat not getting it. She didn't deserve it for Butterfield. Her husband Mike Todd died in a plane crash at the start of filming this. Paul Newman has stated how brave she was going on under horrible circumstances. It's my favorite part of her's.

reply

Wow...I didn't know that! I guess I could have googled it but it sure sounds better coming from the hors.......well...you know what I mean.

Thanks for the info and when I mentioned how pretty she was...I truly meant it. I've seen videos and pictures of her later in life and I'd just as soon remember her from movies like this. I certainly don't age very well and I can't imagine what it must be like to do it under a microscope as she did.

She was a true talent in her day...That's a fact!

lol, I watched it simply to hear Liz scream about the no-neck monsters. That never fails to crack me up.

I was actually going to go to bed early, but ran across it and stayed up to watch until the end... even though I have it on DVD. It's just that much a favorite.

reply

Damn!! I didn't get a chance to see the E-Mail notifications until this morning. I think I watched a couple of Law and Order re-runs last night. Pretty freakin' lame!

Someone mentioned watching this terrific movie on TCM even though they have it on DVD... That says it all.

I've got to believe that that scene was the favorite one for a lot of people! That scene's writing was superb and the acting was even better. I sure like the older movies for those two reasons. Special effects and high tech gizmos are OK but not when that's ALL a movie has going for it. Give me a movie with no special effects but terrific writing/acting any day.

BTW, do you know when this movie will be on again? I missed it this last time (I think I mentioned this earlier in the thread) and I don't want to make the same mistake again.

I had recorded it for the wife.
She never walked away? Watched every minute?

reply

Thanks for the reply, I've finally moved into this century and have a DVR.
When it comes on again, I'll definitely record it so I can watch it a few times.
From what I remember, the ensemble cast is terrific and the writing is superb! I hope I don't have to wait too long.

Hey nutsberryfarm, WOW!! I forgot all about this post. Gotta love that email notification.

Anyway, after reading my earlier posts, I feel just as strong about how she looked in this movie. I think that's how I'll always remember her.
