In the Lost ARG, a page from this novel appears with a map. I was curious about any theories connecting the novel/film to Lost.

shareThe whole major theme of Lost is the relationship between Father and Son. The story of The Brother's Karamakov deals with this issue all the way up the scale-- from peasant sons and fathers to illigitimate sons, to legitimate heirs, stepsons, and to God and Christ. Ultimately, it explores the relationship between God and his Child (Man). The Lost story seems to be unfolding the same way. Every character has a father/son/daughter issue. Add to that the theory that Jacob represents Jesus and the Man in Black represents the God of the Old Testament. If you want some more information about this and or references, please feel free to email me here at IMDB.
shareAlso, John Locke gives Ben the novel to read when Ben is first taken prisoner by the Losties. The central theme of the novel is the discussion of a scientific secular world and an ecclesiactical holy one. Just like the "argument" between Locke and Jack.
