The director pointedly shot Kim Novak sans shoes as her character obviously eschewed footwear. Was this in the play, too? Or did he just have a Quentin Tarantino fetish? Very racy for the repressed 50s, especially the shot of her and Jimmy Steward playing footsie in close up.

The library had the stage play by John van Druten (who also wrote Cabaret/I Am A Camera), which I read, but I don't recall her being barefoot in his description of Gillian. Maybe she was.
"The Beamer Xperience: 9 feet wide home cinema bliss."
It was very symbolic and very significant to a 50s audience. All they needed to show was Gil in those pedalpushers and no shoes and you knew everything about her.
