Has Jack Lemmon got a big part in this movie? I mean, I'm planning on buying it soon, because I'm "collecting" Jack Lemmon movies and I've seen the trailer for this movie and the movie itself looks really good, as well as Jack. And I don't really want to buy a movie if the role is like a small debut, if you know what I mean.
So I was just wondering if people could give their own opinions on the movie.
Thanks.
Jack Lemmon: America's Sweetheart "It's Magic Time"
Though he already had a Best Supporting Actor Oscar for "Mister Roberts" (1955), "Bell, Book, and Candle" was one year before Lemmon's co-lead in "Some Like It Hot" got him his first Best Actor nomination and full stardom.
In other words, this is the last time that Jack Lemmon is "merely" a supporting player (James Stewart has top billing and the romantic lead) -- even though Lemmon had been "sorta" a leading man opposite Glenn Ford ("Cowboy") and Robert Mitchum ("Fire Down Below.")
Lemmon reportedly wasn't too happy on "Bell, Book, and Candle" -- because he knew this was a supporting role, and he was pretty much done with those.
Funny: Lemmon is Kim Novak's brother in this movie, but four years later, he would move up to her leading man/lover in "The Notorious Landlady" (1962), directed by Richard Quine, who directed this, too.

Ahhh. Interesting. Because I found out somewhere that Jack reportedly had an affair with Novak during the filming of "The Notorious Landlady" because she was very fond of Jack. And I also read on the internet that Jack was once spotted looking a little too cosy with Novak in the mid-1970s at an awards after-show party. But I don't know whether these claims were true or not.

Speaking of screen time, Elsa Lanchester got a good chunk of this movie, since she was always casted in supporting roles or just guest roles, of course her part in this is a supporting part but still she get's more than I've ever seen her in before.
"I promise you, before I die I'll surely come to your doorstep"
OMG, Jack Lemmon was so hilarious in "Some like it Hot", I think him and Tony Curtis enjoyed their time dressed up as women, especially Lemmon, him putting on lipstick, fighting off the advances of Osgood!

Nicky apologizes about "how minjy" his Christmas gift to Gillian is (the summoning paint), and remarks that he's hocked his phonograph when Gillian gives him albums, saying, "I've never been so broke." This sets up his motive = he needs the money that partnering on the book will bring him.
For the money. I also think it piqued him to try to make a doofus out of the so-called expert.
Sorta like when Paul Newman is playing a British officer in Exodus and when one of the Brits says he can spot a jew a mile away, Newman says he has something in his eye and can the officer check for him.
