Remake Starring Alicia Keys

Alicia Keys has just signed to star in a remake of this movie.

I hope Disney does the right thing and offers the still-stunning Miss Novak a prominent role--perhaps as the "head witch."

She may likely turn it down, but the gesture should be done all the same.

What an outrage! I am nearly heartbroken by this news.

I will never understand this need to remake the classics. The 1950's version of Bell, Book & Candle is beautiful and perfect as it is!

WHY?!

Anybody wants me can come in and get me. This ain't a drive-in.

You're right. No way will I see the remake. Sounds like a very bad joke, and I know it will be a bomb. More PC junk from Hollywood.

I have a love-hate attitude towards remakes. I love them, because it's fun to see what different vision someone can lend to an old idea re-vamped. But, I hate them, because it could cause people to lose interest in the original, except as a side-note. I also hate them (the post-1970s ones, anyway), because I know that one of the first elements to be sacrificed will be the sophistication. The fact is that with very few exceptions, the last truly sophisticated, classy era of movies was the 1960s. And, depending on the story and people involved, the 1970s.

But, by the 1980s, it was all about the punks, the special affects, and the cynicism---which has only been on the increase, ever since, effectively spelling out the sharp decline of the character-pictures of the past. And, that's what I hate about remakes the most of all!

Please excuse typos/funny wording; I use speech-recognition that doesn't always recognize!

I too, dislike most remakes of good ol' classics.

And WHY Alicia Keys? I hate when random singers star in movies.

reply

Yeah, they haven't even got a decent actress to play the role. Hold on, is Alicia Keys even an actress? I've only known her as a singer. Please don't remake this, Hollywood.

The trouble with a remake is that they either try to do it the same exact way--why bother? Or it is so different it is not recognizable to the original--again why bother?

I'll watch it, but I'm not expecting much. I love the original!

I'm sad to hear that. I've always been disgusted by Hollywood's lack of imagination & originality anymore, that they resort to remakes. I LOVE this movie, it's one of my all-time favorites, and there's no way I'll see it if other people are cast into the characters I've known & loved as who played them originally.

AMEN zuzupetal...that goes double for the remake of "Gambit" (with Jennifer Aniston no less--like anyone would want to steal a statue with THAT nose on it ) that's supposed to come out later this year or early next.

And why Alicia Keys? I guess she wants to be the next J. Lo, which means she too will make movies that run for less than a month before becoming available on video at the $1.99 bin at the local car wash.

The only remakes I can think of that I actually like are those of The Invasion of the Body Snatchers and Cape Feare.

In addition, they added something that weren't in the original versions.
The remake of The Invasion of the Body Snatchers involved the aliens pointing and screeching to identify the humans.

The remake of Cape Feare had Max Cady 'hitch' a ride under a strangers' car by tying himself to it with a belt.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

I'm all right, I'm alllll right!

Hollywood keeps making remakes of classics because they've run out of original ideas..
I also hope they don't remake this classic film.. but even if they do, regardless of who they cast in it, the remake will be garbage and quickly forgotten.

I love Alicia Keys, I think this could actually turn out to be a good movie!

And yes it would be great if Kim Novak played a part! Which part do you think she would play?

She seems to have aged well and looked great back in 1989! - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ki7r6bQX-fQ

I just finished watching it again. I love this movie!

I don't mind remakes as long as Hollywood does it justice. They tend to ruin them with too many special effects which I have a feeling they are going to do with this one.

It would be great for Kim to be in the remake. Maybe as Queenie.

I can't see Alicia Keys in this role but I'll give her the benefit of a doubt. I couldn't see Tom Cruise as Lestat but he did a fabulous job in Interview with a Vampire and really surprised me. She may do the same.

I'll wait until the movie comes out before I decide to hate it.

This will be a laughing stock for fans of this film. I mean who would actually take the remake seriously? Today's Hollywood screw up everything and even though the special effects have improved; I love the movie's "green" tint of the spells and it would just look horribly digitized, now!

Oh, I can see young audiences wanting to see this but serious film fans will be annoyed by this.
Don't mess with great things!

For the record, I wouldn't want to see a remake of this. Instead of remaking good movies, I think Hollywood should redo a bad movie and improve it. That being said, I don't think Keys would do too bad a job. For the record, she hasn't had too much acting experience: an episode of "The Cosby Show" (at the age of 4), Smokin' Aces, and The Secret Life of Bees. She does a good job in the last movie mentioned. If they give Novak a part in the remake, I think she should play Bianca. I could see Novak as a cougar witch with no problem.
