Millie Scott
Man did Lucas screw up by not marrying Millie! She was such a beautiful woman and obviously was in love with Lucas. Lou was alright but I think Millie would have been perfect for McCain.

Millie would have been a good wife & mother, but just based on looks there is no way I'd pass on Lou. She was gorgeous from head to toe. And that sexy, fiery accent & attitude. I gotta pick Lou.
Almost every episode there was some beautiful girl ready to throw herself at Lucas and he was "C'mon Mark let's get back to the ranch and do the chores." It should have been "Mark, why don't you go hang out with Micah for a while."
shareAfraid I don't recall every episode some beautiful girl ready to throw herself at Lucas. In fact, the romance factor was missing in the majority of the episodes. Only until Millie came along did Lucas Boy even have a girl.
If I were Lucas I would have married Lou before anyone else came along and tried to steal her away. A gorgeous woman with her own business makes for a good catch!
bah, you men always like the blondes better! I still think Millie is prettier.
shareActually I think she was more of a red-head, but regardless Lou just had the looks & body that most men would prefer.
I did not know she had died until just now when I Googled her. (Sept. 30 2013). Both were pretty but I have to give my vote to Lou.
Yeah, but they wanted to make the show like real life....You know...The father ALWAYS does whats best for his son and forgets about sex, and any thoughts of sex. Just like the way it was back in the 'good ol' days'. These old shows were good, but they were so far from the real world it's almost funny. Kinda like Ward and June Cleaver on 'Leave It To Beaver'. The shows were phony and no lived like that back in the '50s.
shareNot completely. I watched an episode I can't name where a very attractive woman blew into town with her newspaper reporter husband and when she and Lucas shook hands, he was obviously eating her up with his eyes and held her hand in such a way that he rubbed his thumb over her hand a little. Her gaze was also reciprocal.
As a matter of fact, Mark picked up on it immediately.
I thought it was gutsy for the writers to show 'Lucas the Good' with a little human lust and made his character more interesting.
He did and I saw her, Joan Taylor on Wagon Train (A Man Called Horse season 1 Episode 26) oh boy, she was almost naked in one scene, boy was she hot. watch it on you tube.
shareI've seen it. She's very sexy.
shareI don't think Lucas would've cottoned to being a storekeeper. Remember what happened to the last dude that ran around in an apron doing just that?
shareAfter watching Lou's first two episodes last night, I was reminded of why I'm such a fan of Millie over Lou. I can't stand Lou!
shareJudging by the look on his face when he first catches sight of her, Lucas does not share your opinion.
shareVery true, but I still doubt he ever laid the wood to her. Gotta get those chores around the house done instead!
shareThere is the episode where Lucas goes after the man that Lucas blames for he wife's death. She says that he does not belong to himself, he belongs to Mark, and a little bit to her. I think they were sparking up and dating and probably more. Neither were virgins, so no reason why they shouldn't. I get the feeling that had the show been allowed to go on, they would have ended up together. I like Millie a lot and would have loved to see He and Millie together, but I also loved Lou.
Meh, Millie was mostly window dressing in the majority of episodes she was in. Lou took a more active part, not to mention being more genuine. What does it say for Millie that she ditches Lucas at the drop of a hat and not even give him so much as a goodbye? Will take Lou's honesty over Millie's flightiness any day.
shareIf I were Millie, I would have left too. How long must a woman wait for Lucas McCain to "nail them"? He was the best with his gun but seemingly was a little gun shy in the bedroom.
shareConsidering he had lost his wife, he would be "quick on the draw" as you put it, to settle for another woman just a couple of years after her death. He had Mark to consider as well. Not all men settle for what's available that easily.
shareWhat Lucas longed for was a firm, experienced hand on the tiller. Hattie Denton ruined him for other women.
shareLucas always had a habit of drawing women to him that bolted on the first signs of commitment/responsibility, true. Lou was the only one that didn't.
shareGood one fingaroo!
shareOkay, after watching Lout the past few weeks, I have to admit she's a very pretty woman. The fact that I found out she was a redhead instead of a blonde surely didn't hurt. But why Lucas never piledrived her or Millie is still a mystery.
shareLucas probably believes that is reserved for marriage. And there are men that still think that way as well.
shareYou can see Lou in color on Daniel Boone, she plays his wife.
shareLOL!
shareWait, don't forget Nora earlier in the series. She wanted to marry Lucas wayyyy back but he didn't want to marry her because her father owned a silver mine and she was used to the finer things he couldn't provide I imagine.
Anyway when she showed up again 15 yrs later in his life broke and alone, he obviously wanted to start up with her again. Mark was even trying to get them together. When she told Lucas she was lonely, they kissed in the woods after they took a walk that Mark suggested, the camera fades to black and we know Lucas is probably hooked.
She unfortunately became a con artist who only wanted Lucas to shoot her boyfriend's creditor.
At the end of the show, Lucas is siting quietly by the fireplace and you know he is hurt and disappointed that an old love would take advantage of him like that.
Mark is disappointed also because she was pretty and he really wanted a mother. It was heartbreaking to hear him say this to his Paw because he states that all the other kids have mothers.
I guess what Nora did would make both Mark and Lucas 'gun shy' towards any other future loves in the series.
I don't know why I never was really comfortable with the character of Millie. The idea of her being a romantic love interest for Lucas seemed very forced to me. She was beautiful, but other than that? A fairly bland personality who didn't really seem to "add" much to the atmosphere of the show, you know? At least compared to Hattie Denton, whom she replaced, or Lou Mallory, who would come later (and might have been the only thing I liked about the last season lol)
shareThey never really developed the character of Millie. She sorta flounders until written out of the show.
shareSeeing how Lou went on to marry "Daniel Boone" I like the thought of Chuck Conners and Fess Parker fighting over her.
shareHaha, this just made my day, Richard. I absolutely love it, lmao.
shareI never even found her to particularly pretty to be honest, lol. At least compared to Lou Mallory anyway. It didn't help that most all of her dialogue and storylines are pretty unremarkable.
sharePatricia Blair, as Lou, was much prettier than "Milly". Certainly Milly was attractive but Lou was a knock-out!
shareBoth Lou and Millie were beeyooteefull, but, for my tastes, Lou was just super gorgeous! My first crush I remember, was on Daniel Boone, when I first saw Patricia Blair. I was about 8 years old and could watch her all day long!!
shareAs long as we're dreaming, Lucas took both Lou and Milly to Utah, became a Morman enforcer and married them both and had forty eleven children.

I wasn't going to say it, but as long as someone else brought it up, I always suspected that Millie Scott functioned as the show's "Aunt Harriet." Aunt Harriet, of course, was Madge Blake's character on Batman who was created to stop the 'are they gay' rumors about Batman & Robin, by inserting a woman into the show.
I don't know if any comments along those lines were made about the Lucas/Micah duo, but if they were being made about Batman & Robin, its likely that people could have said it about them, too. Honestly, sometimes its hard not to detect innuendo, unintentional or not. But I always suspected that Millie was introduced just for that specific function, as a love interest for Lucas "in case there was any doubt."
That's what I meant when I said her character seemed quite "forced" without a personality of her own. Lou Mallory, while undoubtedly beautiful, was most appealing because she wasn't just a "stock woman character" but had a personality of her own, and a sense of humor, neither of which the Millie Scott character seemed to have.
Agreed! For whatever reason, probably Mark, Lucas was reticent about pushing it with Millie. Millie was just waiting for Lucas to make a move. When he finally nailed her with a deep, passionate kiss (Millie's Brother episode) it was because he was jealous of another suitor who was showing great interest in her.
Millie would have made a good wife for Lucas and a good stepmother for Mark. Later on there was obviously some physical attraction between him and Lou Mallory but it would never have worked out. They would not have been compatible.
Perhaps Lucas was waiting for Mark to grow up before marrying again. I think there was only one bedroom in that little house so it would have been awkward with Mark there. "Pa! Pa!" On the other hand, they could have had another baby and sibling for Mark. And Lucas could get his groceries at discount.
Personally I preferred Millie. Lou (Patricia Blair) was certainly beautiful and vivacious but a pain. She had been a model, after all. After the honeymoon it would have gotten old. Millie was attractive in a different way. They didn't sex her up the way they did Lou. She was without make-up and most of time her hair was in a ponytail. I'll bet with a little make-up and a hairdo she could look pretty cute. She looked good in the kissing episode. I wouldn't have minded doing a bit of pile-driving myself. She was down to earth and more the kind of woman Lucas would have been comfortable with. We didn't get to see it much but Millie had a nice build and some great legs. The studio insured her legs when she began doing westerns.
I just watched this episode and this is the first time I saw Lucas display a jealous emotion. The way he kissed Milly, I'm thinking, just marry her already. She obviously cared for him and Mark as well.
shareI don't agree. I think one of the great strengths of the show is that Lucas never remarried after the death of his wife (and, apparently, Chuck Connors agrees with me. He participated in walking door to door with a survey for fans of The Rifleman and one of the questions asked if Lucas should remarry and the overwhelming response was "no". Chuck later commented it cemented for him that the show was doing the right thing in not remarrying his character).
It doesn't make him "inhuman" that he never hooked up with any of the women who were introduced on the show. Lucas was most invested in his son, Mark, and theirs was the central relationship of the show. There are men who do not believe in sex outside of marriage, is it so farfetched to believe that Lucas is one of those men? You can also tell he still deeply loves his departed wife, perhaps he didn't have a problem with dating but didn't actually want to remarry and introduce another mother figure to Mark?
Also, some people who lose a spouse don't remarry until their children are fully grown. That's another possibility.
But I believe the writers knew that the Lucas/Marcus relationship was the heart and soul of the show and didn't want to dilute it by remarrying Lucas' character. I vastly prefer Lucas as single (unmarried).
Nothing against Lou, but Millie was plain gorgeous and I loved her character. There was good chemistry bewtween them. I have always been attracted to her in other movies and shows. Patricia Blair was ok, but I never thought she was attractive. Not ugly, but not a knockout.
Millie left the series after season 4 because in real life she married the future producer of Hawaii Five-0. I was sad because I think she could have married Lucas in the final season and that would have made a great ending to a great show.
I liked Milly better. The first time I saw her when she took over Hattie's store, I was in love. She had a calm, yet forceful way about her. Her hair and face was so pretty and she was just the perfect size. She handeled herself quite well in that episode. Lou was pretty as well, but Milly was more resourceful. Besides, Lucas was a rancher "sodbuster," not a banker. Milly would have been the better choice.
