Miss Lily's portraits

When Lily initially opened the Bird Cage there was a painting of her reclining on display behind the bar. Later a shoulders-up style painting was given by a traveling painter-type character played by Warren Stevens.

Whoever did these paintings had talent.

Did Peggy Castle keep these paintings after Lawman went off the air? If not, then where did they go?

Hopefully they didn't just go into the waste basket.

My guess would be that Peggie Castle did get to keep the paintings of her that were used in the series. In her autobiography, "Finding My Way," Martha Hyer states that whenever an actor or actress wore a fancy suit or evening gown for a role, they were usually given that piece of clothing to keep when the role was over. Since it was done for clothing, it would probably go for paintings of the actress as well.

As a matter of fact, in her book, Martha talks about getting into a lot of trouble over some clothes that she wore in a movie. She made "Paris Holiday" on location in France with Bob Hope. When the movie ended, she was given several very expensive evening gowns that she wore in the film. She forgot to fill out the customs forms on the gowns and when her plane arrived in New York, Martha found herself in a lot of hot water. She was strip-searched and wound up having to pay a huge fine and legal fees over those gowns. She said that what she had to pay cost several times more than what the gowns were worth. A couple of years ago, while introducing "Paris Holiday" on TCM, Robert Osborne mentioned this incident and added that Martha really caused the mess herself by getting mad and refusing to pay the customs fee on the gowns.
