Percy Helton

On yesterday's show, Percy Helton guest-starred as Oren, the very near-sighted saloon swamper at the Birdcage. He walked in after one of the girls was murdered, but could not identify the killer because his glasses were broken when the man hit him and ran away. Dan had a pair of phony glasses made and tricked the killer into exposing himself by making him believe that Oren could identify him.

Percy Helton is one of the most recognizable character actors ever to appear in Hollywood. His raspy voice and small size limited him to the character roles at which he excelled.

However, in real life, Percy Helton had served in the army during WWI and saw combat in France. He was seriously wounded by being poisoned by mustard gas.

Percy Helton was a real-life American hero as well as being a great actor.
