I might be confused, but I recall an episode in the later years of the show where a college aged male family friend (or possible relative) came to stay with the Stones while attending college. He was a bright high school student who was pressured to compete on the same level in college. His inability to cope led him to taking "uppers" to stay up with his work. This eventually led to him stealing drugs from Dr. Stone.
Does anyone else recall this episode, or am I the one on drugs?
There was an episode like that in the last season, and a rather groundbreaking one for its time. I have this episode; I taped it way back in 1991 when N&N had the Donna-thon, and have recently converted it to DVD along with many of the rest of the eps I taped during the week-long event. Good thing, too, because those VHS tapes were getting washed out-looking and creaky from age and many repeated viewings :) Thought I'd secure them onto digital format to have until, hopefully, TV Land brings it back or it's released on DVD. I did manage to re-tape the first season when TV Land had it a couple of years ago, but too bad they didn't acquire the remaining seasons. Hope this was a help. That was a very interesting episode, BTW, along with many others. I really feel that TDRS was one of the more progressive shows of its era, yes wholesome and hunky-dory, but innovative and fresh in many ways compared to the more conservative others like Father Knows Best et al...They were good shows in their own right, but to me it seems like TDRS was really a standout as far as having a strong mother figure and female lead, but Donna and Alex's relationship is really a partnership, like marriages should be-a complementary balance of male and female/yin and yang... :) The other shows seem have a Superdad aura about them and kind of berate or relegate the females in the background...just my humble opinion... I studied media and journalism in college, and hope to someday be able to write the quintessential guide to the show--that's another thing, too, many of the classic shows are already on DVD or have books about them. Donna and her show should get their due, doncha' think? P.S. If you're interested in that episode, I could put it on DVD or VHS for you, as well as others possibly for no charge....
The drug addiction episode was one I had not seen since the early 1990's when Nick at Nite was showing all 276 episodes of The Donna Reed Show.
Only several of the episodes are out on DVD. There are two of the episodes that purchased from the series on DVD(and they were featured on the inside of a cereal box).
Hi,one can never be too rich or have too many friends. I thought one episode was cute when Donna won some kind of award for being the perfect wife and mother and she was embaressed. Another episode that was interesting is when a little boy got sick and doctor stone helped him. Donna mentioned she had been a nurse before her marraige, did she ever take it up again,or volunteer at the local hospital? Just wondered.
I think she was in the "Women's Auxiliary" at the hospital, made up of doctor's wives (of course, all the doctors were men then, LOL). I seem to remember her working in the hospital gift shop.
Yes. It was mentioned on many occasions that Donna had been a nurse prior to marrying Alex. Before Alex moved his practice from their home to an office downtown, Donna would sometimes help him if his nurse was out. In the season 5 ep, "Mrs. Stone and Dr. Hyde", Donna fills in for Alex's nurse.

I remember that episode, it was brilliant and as someone else posted, quite daring for its day. He stole either the drugs or a prescription pad from Dr. Stone's medical bag. Donna caught a glimpse of him closing the bag, and promptly alerted her husband.
I vaguely remember this episode. I hope MeTV shows ALL of the Donna Reed Show. Currently they are showing season 5 (seasons 1-5 are on DVD). I hope they don't do like they do with My Three Sons and stop after so many seasons.

this was the episode with Mark Slade. It was not meant for humor. You are correct. It even led to the actor Mark Slade being put into prison. Mark Slade also appeared on High Chapparel, if i am correct and Barbara Hershey and Michael Anderson Jr program The Monroes.
