More Women like Donna Reed

Lets go back to an era where women acted like ladies instead of the tramps on sex and the city. Donna was a classy woman who took care of her family. I love this show and it's one of the only shows I allow my children to watch. They will know what a real woman acts like instead of the likes of Ellen or Sex and the city.

It was a great show and I agree, when you compare Donna Reed to what's on today, it's pathetic. My 10 year old grandson watched seasons 1 and 2 with me. He actually sat back and enjoyed the shows. He got a kick out of Jeff getting into trouble so often yet he witnessed Jeff learning a lesson each time. Today the kids just see kids and parents mouthing off at each other and there's little-to-no respect. I fully agree, this is much healthier for kids to see.

reply

Oh you got that right! - Every good adjective of elegance, beauty, class and virtue can be used to describe Donna Reed.

And Carl is just way too handsome - and the kids are mannerly and kind to visitors and strangers. hmmm You just don't see any of that anymore. Unfortunately, it's all pathetic what's on today with those loud-mouth queen bees and dirty bums starring in everything.

When it comes to beautiful classic actresses, Donna Reed sets the standards!
How much better society would be today if everyone would emulate her!

Mellow Salutations!

I can see what you mean by trampy from SATC but what the heck did Ellen ever do??

reply

I assume the OP doesn't want women to be like Ellen because Ellen is gay. You know, because there were no gay people on television in the 1950s or 1960s. In fact, I'm pretty sure gay people didn't exist until 1974. Premarital sex (the kind that those dastardly women on Sex and the City engage in) was invented the following year and things just haven't been the same since.

reply

Donna Reed was a lovely lady, to be sure, but she was married three times I think. I think the OP wants more women like Donna Stone who was fictional.

And Ellen is charming and genuine. Geez.

reply

Ellen pushes the gay agenda. I don't think Donna Stone would do that.

reply

How do you know what Donna Stone would push? You do know that she was against the Vietnam War, and would have been against the Gulf War, invasions of Panama & Grenada, the Iraq War, and the Afghanistan War if she was living now? Go back to the hole you crawled out from under.

reply

^THIS.

reply

Ellen tends to be a bit disrespectful and negative towards women who are fine with viewing their husbands as the final decision maker of the family after discussing the matter with the wife. At least that's the impression I got from her. Husbands should not be dictatorial but it is fine for them to be the final decision maker and for a wife to support her husband even if she feels the idea might not work. At least he cared to make the decision and carry out the plan.

This bullcaca again? Here's a great quote about that:

It's cute that you think Donna Reed (not Donna Stone) is your ideal woman when she worked as an actress for decades, ran her own production company and was a vocal opponent of the Vietnam War. Reed was the opposite of some meek little flower. She spoke her mind and didn't allow anyone to run all over her - ever. If you think anyone can own a successful company and "know their place", which presumably is code for "a good little woman who has no opinion and never speaks lest she challenge me", you're more delusional than your post belies.

On the flip side, perhaps the world would be a better place if men were more like Dr. Alex Stone. You know, successful doctors who are handsome and stay in shape, respectful to their wives, involved in their children's lives, don't carry on affairs or troll the internet for sex, and provide well for their families so their wife doesn't have to work. Funny how you "good old days" people don't wax poetic about how men have drastically changed for the worse. Oh, that's right. This has nothing to do with men, you guys are perfect! It's all about how it's not fair that you can't outright marginalize people who are of a different gender, sex, color, religion or sexual orientation as yourself.

Goodness, change and evolution is awful.

reply

I think society needs to improve in many ways but lets not pretend like the 50's or 60's were perfect. Rose colored glasses makes us forget

reply

^Damn fracking right. And people like this need to stop living in the past and try to watch the shows of today, many of which are the best the medium's ever made. Of course, they can't, since their minds can't handle anything that isn't approved by the old NAB (National Association of Broadcasters) and doesn't have the Television Code seal.

reply

You must be a kid.
At least back then we could all sit down as a family and watch shows without the vulgarity and lewdness. There were values, respect, and people even had a conscience. Shows like this promoted these.
It isn't that we 'can't handle it'. It's that we remember a time when we didn't have to. If you wanted to see those things, you went to a theater.
Of course there were problems and things weren't 'rosy'. What a cynical perspective! Television was an escape from the pressures of the day, not a reminder of them.

reply

I agree Tadlem, I agree!

We know now and knew back then that life wasn't entirely like the Stone family, but it resembled it. The basics were the same. In most cases the mom was at home. Maybe not in heels and pearls, but she took care of the family and home. Dad worked outside the home, families ate together, hung out together, watched tv together, etc. it was nice to be able to watch a show and not have to question if it was safe for the kids to be in the room. Most of the "adult" shows (which were mild compared to the crap today) came on at 10pm and kids were in bed by then.

I cringe at the thought of today's shows being what our young people consider realistic. Of course when you look at the family unit today today compared to back then, it has changed completely. Crude remarks, sarcasm and disrespect are the norm in some families. I guess this is why the kids of today consider these shows realistic.

On another note, I know a lot of kids who watch the old shows on Antenna TV, ME TV, etc.

reply

I'm an adult, dumb-ass, and at least I'm not like you or the OP. And I'll bet you haven't seen any vulgarity on any of the new shows, and are just projecting. Prove to me that there's any swearing/vulgarity, and I'll believe you. But I think that you're just being full of caca like most of the Trump supporters/Tea Party people who love these old shows, and want the USA to stay in the past.

reply

Why so angry? Does the OP come to your house and harrass you every morning? Why bring politics into the discussion? There was nothing political in the original post. You sound like a very angry person who needs some help.

reply

I'll bet you haven't seen any vulgarity on any of the new shows, and are just projecting.

solex, what are you talking about? Almost every single show for the last 35 years has had foulmouths in it, and also promoted every other form of immorality/evil. Your claims otherwise are outright absurd.

want the USA to stay in the past.

Because a "society" run by psychopath barbarians (i.e. liberals/democrats) like we have now is so much better, right?  The past before those psychopath barbarians took over was a lot better indeed!

I think that is why this thread makes you so angry: you know all that is true, and you don't like when other people speak the truth.

reply

Yes, values like racism, sexism and classism. Great role models.
