Helicopter Used In Film

There was an early model chopper used in this film with the reg no. CF-AKL. The chopper looks like a very early (and perhaps Canadian assembled Bell 47). Unusually for a Bell 47 the airframe is fabric covered and the engine has covers too. Instead of skids it is fitted with four wheels (like the Westland Wasp.

Checking the reg no. shows CF-AKL was allocated to an equally early Cessna 182.

Any info welcome.

Although the story is set in Canada, this film was made in the UK so the helicopter reg is definitly false.

WTF did you expect to find here?

Anorak alert!

A much earlier use of a helicopter was in the pre-war Hitchcock movie "The Thirty-nine Steps". Going from memory, I think it was something like 1937. I understand the thirties was when choppers were invented and developed. Call me an anorak if you like.

The rotorcraft in The 39 Steps was an autogyro, not a helicopter. Similar looking, but an autogyro actually flies like a fixed-wing airplane and has the same controls as an airplane. It can't hover or fly vertically like a helicopter does.

Oh, and the movie was released in 1935.

All the universe or nothingness. Which shall it be, Passworthy? Which shall it be?
