Outstanding!

Wow, just seen this and was blown away! Can't believe how little attention this absolute gem gets. The two central characters are among the most memorable to grace the silver screen.I don't know if anyone else perhaps thought this, but it definitely seemed to me that LA Confidential owes a great deal in many aspects to this great movie?

I just recently saw this film for the first time as well and was just mesmerized by it. Burt Lancaster ad Tony Curtis delivered the performances of their careers in this gritty, realistic drama looking at the seedy underbelly of show biz and journalism. The only debit in my opinion was the casting of the wooden Susan Harrison as JJ's sister, but other than that, this is a remarkable film that all true film buffs should embrace.

I actually thought Susan Harrison was pretty good in the movie. She was supposed to be playing a very strange, unstable girl, and God knows that's how she came off. It was an unusual performance, but certainly not wooden.

Agreed. I remember Leonard Maltin saying the same thing about Paul Newman's character in 'From The Terrace' where he says his acting was 'Wooden'. Well, the character he was playing was SUPPOSED to have a chip on his shoulder and a single-focused drive to out-do his father financially, only to find out that it didn't bring him the happiness or satisfaction he had hoped. How was he supposed to portray a character like that...all chipper and gregarious?

I think she did a fine job playing the character as it was intended.

Just saw it tonight. Thought it was great. Sidney and J.J. are by far two of the most rotten and unscrupulous characters I've seen on screen.

Saw this film first time round and have always loved it.
In 1971 I got to work with Curtis for six months in the UK on The Persuaders.
Great guy to work with and we chatted for hours.

Aitch,
