pretty sick flick when u think about it (but still good)

well reading wikipedia.org about ssos
turns out it was a casablanca style made on the fly film shoot
w/ odetts ripping sheets from his typewriter and rushing them to the
set

and further it's about two borderline closet queens or close to it
one incestuous - hooray for hollywood!

tony curtis proves he could too act his way out of a paper bag
and more proof wong howe was indeed the master shooter

burt of course was magnifico as always (was his middle name really 'camera magnet'?)

and so was everyone else even the minor turns
i really thought the scene w/ the 3rd gossip columnist - the caught philanderer (wd?) - and his wife was quite exceptional (i found her dignity alluring and his
impressive)

tc w/o a doubt deserved oscar recognition for this performance
burt too

that wouldna been a repeat for curtis tho of the defiant ones vote split
but he shoulda been nominated just the same dammmit

i think tho ssos was just 'too dark' for 50s academy's ability to recognize
(reward) the performances in it

in today's more accepting world i think tc walks onto the stage to accept oscar
and maybe that fact catapults him to superstardom

awwww who knows? but it is one heckuva performance
tony and burt were two 'movie stars' if ever there were - presence charisma
looks ... the works

according to filmsite.org here are the '57 best actor noms:

ALEC GUINNESS in "The Bridge On The River Kwai", Marlon Brando in "Sayonara", Anthony Franciosa in "A Hatful of Rain", Charles Laughton in "Witness for the Prosecution", Anthony Quinn in "Wild Is the Wind"

only one ive ever seen is river kwai so i cant really say if tc's turn
outdoes any of the others'

i dunno tho ... pretty tough to second guess the academy on guinness' win i mean
some pretty heavy duty acting chops laid down by a pre 'sir' a guinness

still and regardless tony curtis gave one helluva performance - iconic even -
as sidney falco

timing tho as 'they' say is everything

jj: 'match me sidney'
sidney: 'not right now jj'

an epic truly epic hollywood moment

I thought Martin Milner as the one decent guy with any guts was outstanding, he never got enough credit.

But, Tony was spectacular!
