Filming Locations
Does anybody know the name or location of the TV theatre, where JJ is rehearsing his script for a broadcast?

shareThe theater is (or was) in L.A. Remarkably only 3 weeks of location shooting was done in New York. This was probably a continuity nightmare. The exterior of 21 was obviouly real but the interior was a set back in LA. The ceilings in 21 are to low to accomodate film equipment of the 1950's
Movie Place
Trust me, the interior shots at 21 are authentic.
Maxwell Kriendler (an owner) has a cameo as do a few of the staff.
All filming took place on a single sunday and Tony Curtis still has fond memories of the shoot.
One of my favorite touches in the film is the opening shot, in which Sidney gets a soft drink in a Broadway joint. This was filmed either in Benedict's or Elpine, the two "pina colada" chains that populated the Times Square area in that era. The authentic touch: Sidney's drink cup is a "Dixie Cup" in a conical form like a coffee filter, held in a brushed aluminum holder. Many's the soft drink I had in either Benedict's or Elpine (hot dogs, too).
shareAnother great soft drink place was Orange Julius there was a number of them in Times Sq back then

The scene when Sydney confronts the columnist and his wife appears to actually have been filmed in the original Toots Shor's, which was famous for its round bar.
"May I bone your kipper, Mademoiselle?"
