Cats in the bag and the bags in the river

please explain it to me.

reply

Cats in the bag = the secret is hidden
and the bags in the river = the secret is drifting away, no one will know.

I have actually heard of people (in the long ago past, I hope) putting kittens in a burlap bag and drowning them in a river to keep down the population of cats. In that respect, "cat's in the bag and the bag's in the river" would seem to mean that the problem has been taken care of.

I agree. I miss the good old days when you could go down to the river and drown a cat, then stomp a couple of homos on your way back without the 'PC' police climbing up your ass!

I think even more so it links to the phrase, "The cat is out of the bag.", meaning the secret is exposed. But, as others have pointed out, people drown cats in rivers in bags. Link the two together and you have, the secret is safe and sinking into oblivion.
