Did Death cheat? And other questions.

I have a question, in the last chess scene we can see the chess table in two different angles (before Block throws the figures): one of this angles is shown when Death speaks, and the other when Block does. In one of them there's no figure in front of Death's queen, and in the other there is. I don't know if Death cheats when it fixes Block's screw up, if it's a continuity error or if it has some deeper meaning. I think that, whether Death cheated or not, Block is condemned anyways, so it doesn't bother me much.

What is bothering me is that Jof seem to have visions of Virgin Mary as well as visions of the Death, and we are supossed to think that Death exists in the movie but God is uncertain. I tend to think that Bergman wants to give us an agnostic point of view by having Jof seeing both Death and Virgin Mary. Oh, and I also don't quite understand why Block's wife and the servant girl aren't dancing at the end. (I know it's a poetic movie, but I like to know if somebody has other interpretations relating to these facts)
