One Part I Found a Little Strange...

After the fight between Cabiria and the hooker from across the street is broken up and they are putting Cabiria in the car, the girlfriend of the car's owner walks right up to camera, looks directly into it, and says something which is not translated into subtitles. Did anyone else find this a little bit strange? Does anybody have any idea what she says?

reply

Italian is my mother tongue; I think she said something like "You'll pay for calling me cokehead". I don't think this has any relevance.

reply

It's very difficult in general to tell what the actors are saying much of the time as they are speaking a dialect only found in Rome; there are also sub-dialects of the Roman dialect which vary depending on what part of the city one lives in.

reply

I have to disagree on that; pretty much every character speaks with a rather Rome-esque inflection, but the general quality of the language used is very clear. Apart from a couple marginal lines, there are no difficulties whatsoever, if you are a native speaker.

reply

That's odd. This line was translated in the version I watched (an old VHS release).

reply

...and what was the translation they provided ?
