My favorite was probably "(You're So Square) Baby, I Don't Care." I also really liked "Young & Beautiful," and, of course, "Jailhouse Rock." It's really impossible to have a defnite favorite, for me. LOL.
Elvis: "Man, I was tame compared to what they do now... I didn't do anything but just jiggle."
How could anyone choose :P
shareElvis sang 6 songs in Jailhouse Rock: Jailhouse Rock, Young and Beautiful, I Want to Be Free, Don't Leave Me Now, Baby I don't Care, Treat Me Nice.
Elvis did a much better version of "Don't Leave Me Now" on side 2 of his "Loving You" album. The 7 songs featured in "Loving You" were on side 1 and side 2 contained 5 songs not from the movie.
The version of "Treat Me Nice" that was on the flip side of the "Jailhouse Rock" single is also much better than that in the movie.
Having said that, the versions of the two songs in the movie are more in character with his role in the movie than the more polished versions that I have mentioned.
There were other songs in this movie? :) "Treat Me Nice" was good, but I thought "Young and Beautiful" was painfully boring.
sharehow could you forget the great Hunk Houghton singing "One More Day" ??
shareNo better song in there
shareDid the producers purposely give Mickey Shaughnessy a crappy song to do just to provide contrast with Presley? Man, that song is terrible, even for 1957.
share"One More Day" was before its time! This was 1957, and the Kingston Trio kicked off the Folk Revival with "Tom Dooley" in 1958. I am surprised Mickey Shaughnessy didn't record an album, but this is the only song I can find of his. I would have liked it to be given additional lyrics and recorded by Tennessee Ernie Ford. I can't find any other version so it must be original but can't find who wrote it. Anyhow, I just wanted to mention for anyone interested it is extremely similar to the African American spiritual "Let Me Fly." Many performance examples can be found on YouTube. The similarity may explain why "One More Day" never made it big.
share"Jailhouse Rock" is one of Elvis' best songs and one of the best songs in rock 'n' roll. Elvis' voice has a snarl in it when performing this selection that no one has matched.

"Don't Leave Me Now" and "Young and Beautiful". By the way, my grandfather knew Elvis' father - they were introduced by a mutual friend at a party in Arizona, around the time this movie was made. I never tire of passing on this fact to anyone who'll listen!!!
shareMY FAV was Treat Me Nice--I like the line Don't you ever kiss me once, kiss me twice..lolz, i'll def. kiss elvis twice.. =]
Me gustan los hombres, me abburen los ninos.
Eeeeeeewwwwwwwww - he's been dead for over 30 years.
shareHaha...well when he was alive I would have. Duh
Traigo penas en el alma;
Que no las mata el licor...
The good thing about this day and age of cds is that most soundtrack releases have both studio and movie versions of the songs. The double release of Jailhouse Rock/Love Me Tender has both versions from both movies. It's cool to listen to the movie version of the song Jailhouse Rock on cd with all the extra added background vocals.
shareI very much love Young & Beautiful, Baby You're So Square And Treat Me Nice. What has always surprized me is that Treat me NIce is such a memorable upbeat get up on the floor and move catchy song yet it was not one of Elvis #1 hits. I still cant get over that compared to his other songs that did make #1.
share"Treat Me Nice" was released as the B-side of "Jailhouse Rock". If it had been released on a separate single as an A-side, it probably would have been a number 1.
I've always been very partial to (You're So Square) Baby I Don't Care. I can't say where I saw it - whether or not it was MTV I don't remember - but I remember seeing the performance of the song from Jailhouse Rock, where he's singing by the pool, presented as a video. It was always a treat to see...great movie, too.
"How do you feel?"
"Like the Kling-Klang King of the Rim-Ram Room!"

If you'll notice, Treat Me Nice had the same tempo as Elvis' biggest seller ever, Don't Be Cruel. Elvis figured it should be the A-side, as a follow-up also to the similar Teddy Bear from his previous movie. The success of the iconic song Jailhouse Rock took him by surprise.
Nobody knows what "literally" means anymore. Literally.
A few years later -- I just re-watched this movie today. Best three songs: "Jailhouse Rock", "Treat Me Nice" and "You're So Square" -- all written by the great Leiber and Stoller. The little "video" of Elvis singing "You're So Square" by the pool, is pure essence of Elvis. Love it - recorded it.
