Will be Shown on Svengoolie on 5/14/2016

The Incredible Shrinking Man (1957) will be shown on Svengoolie on MeTV on Saturday night, 14 May 2016, at 9PM Central Time. 

This is a really great movie and I am glad Sven is showing it. 

It has fantastic, genuine special effects, unlike the computer-generated ones in today's movies.  

Yeah I can't wait to rewatching this movie. It's been awhile since I've seen it. Not to give anything away, but if I remember right, I thought the ending was really depressing.

reply

Heck, I'll be watching. I like Svengoolie - he's a serious horror show host and usually brings up interesting trivia about the movie and actors. I don't know how recently Svengoolie will tape his show but if it is after May 8, he's sure to mention the death of legendary character actor William Schallert, who portrays one of the doctors in this movie.

reply

Speaking of Schallert, he's in The Star Trek episode The Trouble with Tribbles on directly before Svengoolie tonight.

reply

I can't wait to watch tonight's movie either. It's been a long time since I've seen it.

BTW, I think "The Trouble with Tribbles" was a last minute add by MeTV to honor Shallert's passing. The reason I suspect this is MeTV usually shows Star Trek in chronological order but tonight's offering is out of sequence.
He died on May 8th which is the same day as the original OP's message so I think Sven's choice must be a coincidence.

reply

I think Sven's choice is a coincidence because he mentioned the movie last week (05-07-2016) Still, if he tapes his show after May 8, 2016, it would be nice to see Sven give a mention to William Schallert.

reply

I was just wondering that myself, and was going to ask. It's still shocking that Patty Duke died ten days before. I wonder if Mr. Shallert knew or if he was too sick.

reply

That was a strange coincidence, wasn't it? Well hopefully "Dad" is having fun lecturing Patty again.

reply

Whoops, sorry - seeing your post only after I wrote mine!

reply

And it was cool, before the movie was an episode of the original "Star Trek" which included Shallert playing a really irritating (fun) character. "The Trouble with Tribbles." Guess it's William Shallert Night on MeTV.

reply

Yep - be brought it up during the first commercial break. Gratifying.

reply

Did everyone notice how Svengoolie inserted about a 1/2 second clip
of Larry Fine (of The Three Stooges) saying either, "A tarantula!" or
"It's a tarantula!" just as the first appearance of it in the movie
happened?

Character is revealed by how you treat people with no power.

reply

Yep...It's in there and was both weird and funny!

reply

It was kind of cosmic, a concept I didn't get till much later.

reply

Orangey the cat also stars in this cool movie.

reply

Orangey, the only feline double Patsy Award Winner!

I just watched "The Incredible Shrinking Man" and Svengoolie did tape a short segment to mention William Schallert's passing - and dedicated tonight's movie in his honor. Yes, Svengoolie sure dresses weird, tells corny jokes, sings corny songs, etc. but you've got to admit that when he talks about movie trivia and gives biographies of the actors and actresses in the movie, he does his research. Yes, maybe I'm the first to say it, but in this regard Svengoolie is a class act.

reply

A long forgotten oldie but goodie.

reply

In his introduction Svengoolie said the version they'll show is enhanced using modern techniques. Hope nothing ruins the original.

reply

Perhaps I heard wrong, but I thought he said it was simply a better, remastered print. Either way, it didn't seem to add anything as shocking as some of the "new" characters in the original "Star Wars".

I like "Star Wars" both ways, and have a DVD that shows the original as well as the "enhanced" version. As long as I can see the original to a movie, when I want to do, I don't mind seeing a modern take on special effects. I might only want to see it once, and then go back to the original version, but I might be open minded enough to view it, I guess it depends.

There might be an exception to that, say with the original "Dracula" for example. I don't think modern special effects could enhance it, it's creepy and atmospheric enough on it's own...and there is nostalgia there as well...it's like visiting an old friend.
