Were there any Deleted Scenes?

In the Cast of Characters, there is a character listed as 'the Giant', followed by 'deleted scene'.

Curious if there were any deleted scenes.

I know they couldn't include the two scenes from the book where he is nearly gang raped, then hit on by a Pedophile who gives him a 'ride'.

Also, will it ever get an official DVD release with Special Features? It does cry out for a really thorough Audio Commentary. It's currently available as part of a Sci-Fi Package, but deserves its own special release.

I'm not sure about what was deleted, but Lock Martin was the giant actor who played Gort in The Day the Earth Stood Still.

I agree that there should a DVD release. Only trouble is I bet a lot of the behind the scenes people have passsed on. What I would like to know is how did they get that cat to growl and hiss and all that? :( I guess I'll never know

The scene where he visits the circus to talk with some of the performers was cut from the tv version for many, many, many years.

Most likely it was cut out back then to allow for more commercials.

Not really a studio deleted scene, but then again yes it was a deleted scene.

There is a weird jump cut when Carey impales the spider. Maybe there was more footage of the spider's death that was cut?

reply

Many film buffs believe that there was additional gore in that scene, and that old TV prints had the gore intact. After the spider is impaled, there are reportedly several seconds of blood dripping down onto Grant Williams. That footage does seem to have been removed, as though Universal used a cut TV print as their master for the DVD.

reply

I saw the blood dripping last night on Svengoolie's show.

reply

Yes they deleted the scene where Scott and the midget burlesque sex-kitten (April Kent)were going at it like lust crazed weasels.

reply

Very daring for the 50's.
