Possible spoiler:
My only objection to this movie is the physical violence against both Russell (Meeker slaps her, and later punches her) and Merkel (the agent drops a telephone on her head). Even back in the '50s when I was a little kid, we were always taught that good guys don't hit women. Meeker (an actor I like a lot) is the perpetrator of the kidnapping here, but he's really supposed to be a good guy, the romantic lead. It's hard for me to believe that in their future life as a couple, potentially as husband and wife, he won't just pop her in the face if she gets on his nerves about something. That's just not cool, and it wasn't cool in 1957 either.
