Not the fault of the special effects excellent technicians, but the story authors' . i saw this movie in
1963 and found it flat and stale, nowhere the drama and the suspense of "Tarantula" could be found.
Richard Denning and Mara Corday ( even more attractive than in the previous arachnid movie ) are superb, but their talents wasted.
All the creative energy obviously went into making the effects.
shareWatch it again! Please! Its really pretty good over-all! The Black Scorpion is the the third best BIG BUG movie! Them 1954 (the original!) and Tarantula 1955 and The Black Scorpion uses three different techniques to illustrate the creatures: Them has life sized puppets, in Tarantula we have a REAL tarantula beautifully incorporated with natural environments. And Black Scorpion offers some great but simple made stopmotion action from Mr King Kong, Willis H O´Brien. It really works because scorpions are suppose to look metal hard, and coldly dangerous..
