There seems to be some confusion about the first name of Sommers (one of the two Navy demolitions guys) and the rank of Quinlan. Sommers is referred to as "Sam" in the dialogue, but the cast list calls him Jack Sommers. As for Quinlan, he's constantly referred to as "Lieutenant" in dialogue but the cast list calls him Ensign Quinlan. Anybody else catch onto this?
shareThe "cast list" in the end credits was tacked on to the original movie, along with a prologue and some extra footage (some of it from World Without End), when it was released to television about five years after its theatrical release. It's safest to trust the actual film, although the extra footage pads out the running time nicely and makes it seem less like the quickie it is. The ending is otherwise terribly abrupt. The end credits are not reliable. I would have spelled the botanist's name "Devereaux" (as in Blanche) instead of "Deveroux," for instance, based on its pronunciation.
