The Professor from Gillian's Island - No one noticed?

I find these things that tie movies together interesting, but nobody else has mentioned it.

Hank, the guy on this island that uses and later repairs the radio, is the same actor Russell Johnson that years later played the Professor on Gillian's Island. And what did he do as Professor on Gilligan's Island - the SAME THING - he was in charge of their transistor radio and somehow keeps it going (among other things).

I wonder if someone saw him in this movie, thought he made a good radio guy, and offered him a like part in Gilligan's Island?

reply

Yes, I noticed. In fact the only way I could find the title of this movie was to check Russell Johnson's credits.

I absolutely noticed this too. When Gilligan's Island reruns were the dominant show after school in the early 1970s, you don't miss things like that when seeing a movie like this. It is interesting, fixing the radio, life on an island...

That is the first person I recognized in this great old horror flick. I just watched this on our local retro tv channel tonight and had to come find out more about the movie. I also recognized the lieutenant(?) but haven't figured out the actor's name yet. I just had to reply to this post first, I thought it was funny about the radio thing too.

OK -- what would be great is seeing an intrepid and savvy creative person work up a new short using scenes from this title with scenes from the early black and white Gilligan's Island episodes.

What's Up, Tiger Lily?

Hey, that would be a really fun idea (a la "Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid"), the Castaways are menaced by giant man-eating crabs!

I'M A TRAVELING SALESPERSON. I SELL BANJOS.

Imagine a giant crab with the brain of Little Buddy!

Oh, we all noticed. I about jumped out of my skin when I saw my beloved Professor. Man's a total badass.
