Jaws parallels

It really struck me.

A tough and single-minded 'hunter' with a dodgy reputation (Friend/Quint), a cultured scientist with a fascination for the subject (Rollason/Hooper), and an everyman out of his element who's there through a sense of responsibility (Jock/Brody). I guess that dynamic isn't unheard of but there were other little things. They're searching a hostile environment for a giant beast; character flaws and motivations are revealed gradually through their enduring hardship together; the 'monster' is only glimpsed in snatches until the climax; the tough guy/leader becomes so determined to succeed he starts endangering the others.

Good stuff either way, (almost) always trust Hammer.
