Why does this movie have two Titles? In an old book I have called, Movies On TV" from 1978, the movi is listed as "Abandon Ship"; But when I searched for it o iMDB, "Seven Waves Away" came up. So, why would hey change the title? Thanks.
What's wrong with the title "Abandon Ship"? and WHO came up with the stupid title "Seven Waves Away" this sounds like a leering sex comedy about sailors chasing 'Waves'(female sailor). The alternate American title is "Seven Days from Now" I think IMdb needs to review this listing as it appears to be an error.
Well - you guys need to keep in mind that it was a British production, and in imdb they list a movie under it's original title, which Seven Waves Away is. Abandon Ship is the title they gave it for USA release.
It is sailor's slang, basically meaning that someone's dead or dying. It's Lloyd Nolan's character who says "I'm seven waves away", but as that's a British expression unknown to most Americans, keeping that phrase as the title in the US would have made no sense to filmgoers here.
To restate what another poster wrote, the film was made in England (because it was cheaper for Power's production company to film there than in Hollywood), where it was entitled Seven Waves Away. Abandon Ship! is its US title. Changing a film's title between the US and UK was an extremely common practice back then, in both directions.
