Upset Victory!

Wow! Minding my own business today and another "shipwrecked" film pops on the telly when I have fifteen minutes to spare. Only thing is I then FORCED myself to watch it in its entirety. Couldn't help myself. Was that riveting. Was that awesome.

Glad I found this gem earlier today.

I only wonder what an ex-USMC, WWII combat pilot like Tyrone Power himself thought of his true-to-life character. Tough spot. Tough decisions to be made. But I thought the opera lady was thee most heroic. Really excellent film. Cheers!

The way the story is told in the flick, those survivors were hypocrites!

In reality I don't think they would all turn against the guy.

Well...they were either hypocrites, or they were very human. Looking out for #1. That's what being in command is all about; out on an island. Alone.

Not all of them were hypocrites.

The girl friend and the "posh" blonde did not turn against him even though he did not realize the "posh" blonde was on his side all along.

The posh blonde understood human nature and that is why she said, "Too soon" when the rescue ship showed up.

Other than Holmes (Power), she, along with the Opera singer, was my favorite. The millionaire was my least favorite. I would have thrown him overboard first.

Categorically disagree that they were hypocrites. They basically didn't have the stomach to willingly embrace what the Captain forced them to do. He gave them an out by forcing them. When they came together to thank him just before their salvation came into view, THAT was hypocrisy, but when they later abandoned him to his legal fate at the end, they were just being true to what had been their feelings all along.
