I will assume you saw Alec release several passengers from the boat. The rest row towards Africa (1500 miles away) in a violent storm. The next moring they all awake, happy and relieved to be alive. They are grateful for Alec's leadership and commend him for releasing the "dead weight". Alec is still shaken by what he had to do and still trying to keep his promise of removing dead weight from the ship, throws himself overboard because of his wound. Alec is broght back aboard, though.
The passengers hear a horn, which turns out to be a vessel. The passengers realize that they took part in the deaths of other weaker passengers and gather together to pin the blame on Alec. They say they only took part in it, because Alec forced them to and held them at gun point. Only Nurse White and Ms. Middleton support Alec.
This is a very raw summary of the last 15 mins.

And he was charged with murder but the jury took into consideration the unusual circumstances so he was sentenced to only 6 months in jail. This was told by a narrator in the final seconds of the movie as he climbed the ladder, one handed, up the side of the huge rescue ship.
I couldn't tell if it was a passenger ship or cargo - looked like a typical cargo ship but as they focused on the passengers who lined the deck to watch them all climb the rope ladder from their little boat, they appeared to be dressed as passengers on a cruise ship (??) They were shown as if through his eyes and since he was ailing from the stab wound, his vision was going in and out of focus as if he was losing consciousness from blood loss making it hard to tell (the cameras lens was brought in and out of focus for this effect), for me at least.
