Would the verdict be the same if the victim was more sympathetic?

The victim, the defendant's father, was an abusive man. By all accounts cruel to his son. The defendant was a young man with a hard life. Would the verdict have been the same if the victim had been more sympathetic and the defendant less so?

As things were, the young guy was barely saved from a swift guilty followed by a trip to the execution chamber. If the victim had been more likeable perhaps not even Fonda could have saved the kid.

I'd be tempted to vote not guilty for that reason!
