I thought it was a very good film, top class acting and a brilliant story. An interesting take on how prejudices and opinions can change our way of thinking. But what makes it a film worthy of THAT high of a rating and #7 highest of all time? Just curious what you guys think. Personally I give it maybe 8/10. I just don't see the real 'masterpiece'-magic if you know what I mean.
I also give it an 8/10. IMDB ratings aren't really the end all be all. The top 10 movies on IMDB aren't necessarily the 10 best movies of all time.
With that said, there are a lot of factors going into it. Maybe "12 Angry Men" was just constantly referred to as a masterpiece of cinema in the 70's, so some early internet adopters or IMDB users just grew up loving the movie or holding it in high regard. It's also a short movie, and mostly easy to understand. There isn't much to dislike about the movie. It manages prejudice and opinions inherently in the story, so maybe people respond well to that concept, and treat the movie the same way.
Just guessing here. I was surprised at the 8.9 as well. All that really matters is what you think, though. Movies are too subjective to just attach a number.
If you ride like lightning, you're gonna crash like thunder
It's generally a movie that attracts people who like it a lot. The ones most likely to give it a low score (weighing down the average) won't watch it anyway because it was an old black-and-white movie.
I gave it 10/10, but my rating system doesn't work like yours. I don't rate based on how objetively good I think the film is (personally, I think that's impossible) or how important it is in the frame of film history. I rated it a 10 because of how much I love it. It's a drama, but an extremely exciting one, and that's something that I've always loved about this movie. Frankly, I think the script is brilliant.
Jaysus that's an easy one. First of all because probably half the voting is from the Czechs, because it is George Voskovec's most reputable Hollywood cast. And second, it's a darn good movie to be honest. I enjoyed it very much.
What movie deserves a 10 more than 12 Angry Men and why? These overrated Frank Darabont movies (Green Mile, Shawshank Redemption)? Big budget epic fantasy/sci-fi movies (LOTRs and Star Wars)?
