Where is Z now?

A couple of years ago, the Disney Channel had "Vault Disney," a late night presentation of vintage video viewing of classic Disney movies and TV shows. Among the line-up was the original Spin & Marty, Zorro, etc.. Then, one Labor Day weekend, Disney held a weekend-long ZORRO marathon, then pulled ZORRO, as well as the Vault Disney line-up. We are now treated to 24 hours of mindless material aimed at grade school and junior high audiences. While I don't have a problem with that during the day, how many kids that age are up at all hours of the night for the endless repeats of the new, generic programs? What happened to all the great Disney classics we used to see on there? I realize some of these were pulled in order to release them as part of the Treasure Tins double DVD sets, but there has to be SOMETHING aimed at adults somewhere in the Disney library to make watching the Disney Channel worthwhile again.

I have noo idea!! But I was just like you, I watched that zorro marathon thinking nothing of it and then the next day it was gone!! I was soo mad! And what's the point of just re running the same shows that occurred earlier that day. I loooved vault disney and i was only like 13 at the time but I just loved the history things they'd give and just everything about it. It really brought me closer to my dad because he used to explain all the episodes to me and he loved it too because he grew up with those shows. I wish they'd bring it back. I miss it so much.

For the time being, the next best thing is if you find any of the Disney Treasure Tins series. These are double DVD sets, with the normal DVD case inside a tin metal box, and all use programs that were run on the Vault Disney series. (Possibly one of the rental stores carry these, although probably not in the metal boxes.) There are 3 volumes of Mickey Mouse (1 B&W set, 2 sets in color), a set of Goofy shorts, a set of Donald shorts, a set looking at the making of Disneyland, a Davy Crockett set, a set of WW II films Disney made, and a look at man's attempts at space travel. As for the Zorros, there were about 7 or 8 volumes on VHS put out that sometimes can be found for rent.

Oh thats awesome!! Thank you so much!! I definately have to find it because I looved that show so much! I also was a Spin and Marty fan. We should write a letter to disney asking to bring it back lol Anyways...thanks again for you help. I hope i can find those tin boxes.

If you're looking to buy the Tin Treasures sets (although some of the early ones may be out of print), Target, Walmart and Hastings seem to carry some of them. I, too, was a big fan of the original Spin N Marty. I can't recall if they ever released those to video or not (although a few individual episodes showed up on the Mickey Mouse Club videos). I was not overly impressed with the recent TV movie THE NEW ADVENTURES OF SPIN AND MARTY, but at least it had Tim Considine and David Stollery put in appearances as their Spin and Marty as adults. Unfortunately, most of the movie followed the two new kids playing Spin and Marty. (Can't recall if they were the original's kids, nephews or what the exact relationship between the original and new Spins and Martys was.) Guess I should have just taped those when they were on Disney every night. Best!

Thanks again you've been a really big help!

Anytime!!!!

Zorro is now available on DVD (1st season shows anyway) from the Disney Movie Club only. I think they run 17.95 and each contains 8 episodes (in color, unfortunately).

I was telling my mom a few weeks ago it was a shame Disney got rid of Vault Disney; and you're right, why have shows for preteens 24/7
Heaven forbid Nickelodeon gets rid of Nick at Nite

Oh i remember when i was one of a few kids on my block with the Disney Channel
When the break between shows had cute videos consisting of clips of disney cartoons and hits from groups like the Doobie Brothers

I loved some of the classics like Zorro
My mom loved the series and she got me and my sisters into it

I'll have to go find some dvds when i get some dinero

reply

Exactly! I'm only 17 years old, but my parents brought me up on Disney stuff they saw when they were little, and I love it SO MUCH!
I remember Vault Disney. I'd stay up every night to watch it, and suddenly it was gone! I was so depressed! I don't even watch Disney channel anymore. It's completely pointless. I miss 'The Ink and Paint Club', 'The Adventures of Spin and Marty', the original 'The Mickey Mouse Club', and 'The Wonderful World of Colour'. It was the greatest thing on Disney channel, but when they were takin off the air, I felt a great void in myself.

Yeah, I don't have a problem with the generic stuff as long as I don't see much of it.
I remember when I was little I used to watch Zorro and Vault Disney. I didn't watch it often, but I liked it.

reply

lol yeah what all of u said. When i was little that is what i would go to bed to was Zorro! the theme song is still stuck in my head. But i really miss Vault Disney and they should bring it back!

reply

Ditto! Vault Disney was awesome, and (in my opinion) there's nothing on the Disney channel these days that even comes close to the quality of Zorro! (Yeah, it was cheesy, but still a great show!)

I haven't watched the Disney Channel since Vault Disney was taken off the air.

Disney channel abandoned the "baby boomers". I totally agree with indyjonesandy. I refuse to support the Disney Channel after they unceremoniously chucked Vault Disney into the trash can.

reply

It seems as if every cable channel has a second network, i.e. ESPN2, etc. BUT, I'm not suprised that the dumb asses at Disney truly have abandoned the boomers that made Disney what it is today, a media monster! This 24/7 coverage for tweens is unbelievable. I really enjoyed "High School Musical" but you can only take but so many DCOM movies! And the horrid treatment of Classic DVD's is laughable. "DISNEY DVD - Pure Digital Magic"! BAH!

The only thing I watched on Disney was the vault disney channel, it sucked when they got rid of it. It made disney a family channel (They had vault disney for older people, disney for kids and playhouse for young kids.) Now, they just have stuff for youngkids and preteens, not to many of which are up at such late hours. I don't watch disney at all anymore.
