On COZI TV Now

In my area (Comcast provider, Eastern PA), they're showing Zorro episodes today, starting @ 1PM EST, going thru 5 PM EST, Season 1, first 8 episodes. Just saw a promo where it will be shown Weekdays @ 11A EST

I remember watching this as a kid (I was born in 1952); thought it was neat with the "Z" and the great opening ( Only opening I can think of that was better is Hawaii Five-0). Watching it now, it was very well done: Story lines, acting, scenery and always some humor , especially with Sgt. Garcia

On my provider, DISH Houston, Cozi is offered 10 hours per weekday and 4 hours on Saturday by the FETV network.

So while I had seen an advertisement for Zorro, it apparently does not air within the periods offered by FETV.

Sad, since I had been looking forward to seeing it again.

For those who don't get COZI on their cable or dish services - you can always check to see if you can get it free over the air stations locally. Those that are fortunate enough to be within 25 miles or so within their local over the air providers, have access to a bunch of free stations that carry channels such as: COZI, Retro, MeTV, Ant TV, Movies!, GRIT, ESCAPE, THIS TV, GET TV, Justice Channel, etc. Lots of movies and cool retro shows such as Zorro, Dragnet, Emergency!, CHiPs; and neat Saturday night programming like Mystery Science Theater 3000, Off Beat Cinema, original Star Trek series, Superman, etc. You'll have to build your own antenna, but it's very easy. (If I can do it - anyone can!). The DIY coat wire hanger works the best and you can get the info on You Tube. I get four times as many stations on that thing than the store bought flat panel over the air antennas - after you experiment with it and place it just right. About 55 channels for me. Got to titantv.com and you can find all the local 'broadcast' channels available to you.

I got rid of my cable a couple of years ago, when they jacked up my subscription yet again without any increase in channels(!) - and I haven't missed it one iota.

I noticed that after the credits end on the COZI episodes there is a note at the bottom of the screen saying something like "color version ... blah blah". They did a good job of colorizing them. They don't have that artificial color look.

Eh. Colorization seems to be one of those things that some people enjoy and others (like me) dislike.

I do agree that the colorizing process is an amazing technical achievement.

And these "Zorro" episodes are probably as good as it gets, or as good as it got when they were processed. Once in a long while you can still spot a patch of color missing or out of place on moving objects, or where the camera is panning rapidly, but it's not as spotty as the crude earlier colorization efforts.

But I still think there's an artificial "Fifty Shades of Brown" quality, though, especially in indoor sets and in much of the wardrobe. Skin tones and complexion are also "wrong" if you really look at them-- faces tend to look like they all have a very fake tan. I'm sure at least some actors are (or were) horrified by their "colorized" makeup and wardrobe.

But the success of colorization depends on the fact that viewers generally don't really scrutinize such details, so I guess picky people like me can just turn off the color-- if TV sets still let you do that. 😉
