My Stupid Wife Sold My Copies

My wife had a garage sale and, without asking me, sold my Zorro VHS tapes! MY Zorro VHS tapes! You don't see me selling anything of hers!

I worked long and hard to find them when I bought them, and now I have nothing to show my children. I want my children to grow up watching the real Zorro, just like I did.

Even though Disney released the series on DVD, the first season cost $200 on Amazon. Outrageous! I don't have that kind of money to spend on movies right now.

I am so, so sad right now that I don't have my Zorro. When will I have it again? THE PAIN! THE PAIN!

I am even considering putting an ad in the newspaper asking whoever bought them to sell them back, I want them that bad. But sadly, they will probably throw them away because everyone is getting rid of VHS. Think of the waste. I want to drink my beer and sing sad songs like Sergeant Garcia.

Lol. You're probably right.

BTW, can you guys believe that the first season of Zorro is STILL almost $300 on Amazon? Who in the world do they think is going to pay that much? It's not even fair. I would have replaced my lost videos long ago, if it were not for that insane price.

Well, I do believe it-- even if it's as wrong as two left shoes, as the saying goes.

I don't know if it'll happen with the "Zorro" series, but you may know that sellers usually set those outrageous prices because the item is "out of print"-- or whatever it's called when the DVD-maker discontinues a product.

Sometimes a series remains in limbo for years, probably because there's some legal dispute over the rights, or some corporation has the rights but for whatever reason isn't interested in re-releasing the product.

Then suddenly somebody makes a deal, and Shout Factory or a comparable DVD house reissues the DVDs at normal price.

I went through this a few years ago, when a family member asked for a "Hill Street Blues" DVD for Christmas. I was stunned to discover that the DVDs were scarce as hen's teeth and exorbitantly priced.

Then I realized that they were being marketed as "collectors' items", because they were out of print.

In 2014, the catalog was re-released, and the boxed series set cost less than one of those "collectible" earlier releases.

Time to look again fella. Here in the UK you can pick them up on DVD for £33.

We have a region-free DVD player, and Amazon US was selling a Region 2 DVD ("Zorro - La Prima Serie Completa") from Italy but with multiple audio settings for language, including the original English track. The price was very reasonable. It's just the first season (as the Italian title translates), but that's 39 episodes, nearly half of the whole series. It's currently out of stock ("we don't know when or if..."), but Amazon says it's not discontinued, so apparently there's hope.
