Time

I'm going to start watching this series. Do you think it withstands the test of time?

reply

I wouldn't say that it withstands the test of time. I like that about it though. I watched it when I was a young girl when it first aired on TV. Now that i'm much older, I understand it better.
I began reading the books in my mid 20s and I got into the reruns when they aired on cable channels.
Now I can stream and binge watch them! Yay!
It holds my interest. I find the stories compelling.
I hope you enjoy this series, and I look forward to your thoughts.

reply

Yes and no. Society, styles, television, and probably some parts of the law have all changed but Perry Mason is still as entertaining as ever.

reply

I stopped watching it because I noticed that all of the scenes took place on movie sets, unlike Law & Order for instance. But I'm glad others are enjoying it.

reply

I guess it's not for everyone. There is a rumor that there will be a new Perry Mason on HBO starring Robert Downey jr. He would make an excellent Perry Mason.

reply

Robert Downey Jr? Hmmmmmmm..... I think I like that!

reply

It was very much a 50's show and like others have said that's part of the attraction. Though I have no doubt that it is a turn off for a majority.
-------------
I wouldn't watch a modern PM. I like the cast esp. Collins and Tallman. The constant smoking is a bit sickening but just the fact they are doing it at all demonstrates how different the series is.
-----------------
I never really paid attention but the Mason office is really cheap. Lousy furniture, silly windows, quite awful.

reply

Mason's office is a gem of 1950s modern design.

reply

Since I hate anything modern, yes, this definitely withstands the test of time.

reply

Novels are even better. When I don't know what to read, I just pick one of them.
