I bought the DVD set the other day. Really a fun show! The cd soundtrack with the set is outstanding! It's a shame the video quality isn't better. I've seen Gunsmoke from the 50's & it always looks great. I know Universal isn't good about restoring their older shows but this is really a pity. I don't regret buying the DVD set at all. The episodes I've seen are really good & the location shots are always awesome. Lee Marvin is great here. Some episodes look pretty good. When they're bad though, ugggg. Still recommended & nice that Timeless media gathered all the episodes together.
I bought the M-Squad set too and I don't know why they couldn't find better prints for some of the episodes.
"M-Squad" ran on a local station in my area back in the early 90s and all the episodes had good video quality. So you'd think they could have gotten better prints.
The Checkmate set is bad too.
But yet I have Peter Gunn,Mike Hammer, Johnny Staccato,Coronado 9,87th Precinct, State Trooper, and The Tall Man, all from "Timeless Video" and all the episodes from each of these shows have excellent quality.
Supposedly they couldn't get access to the master prints. There's a thread on home theater forum about it. I just discovered the show & thought it looked good. Five episodes in & I've enjoyed each one. I've checked a bit on each disk & there are some really washed out episodes. I see some good ones though. Fun show! Great shots of Chicago! Can't imagine how great this series would be if the video quality was better.
I was looking at 87th Precinct also. Glad it looks nice. I love old cop shows & gave most of the major ones from the 70's. Last year I bought a Naked City set & it was incredible! The entire series is supposed to be released soon.
I usually am uoset with bad quality, but I just bought the newest set of M Squad and thought it looked very good. It's not perfect, but it is an old show. Maybe the others are right that they could be better quality, but I am fine with it. Really good show. I had never seen it before.
