Randolph Scott as Paladin--I can't even imagine it.


I mean no disrespect to Mr. Scott, but whoever thought he could pull off playing Paladin by offering him the role first was just wrong.

A thousand thanks should go to him for turning it down and telling Richard Boone on the set of The Tall T that he should try for the role. We all know how that turned out. ;)

I don’t think that ANYONE, looking at this show with the benefit of historical hindsight, could imagine an actor other than Boone as Paladin. He made the role is own. He was not a perfect physical specimen, and that endears him to us. His character shines through his corporeal self. We admire people for their charms. We love people for their flaws.
