One of the great series ever and by far the best western

The role fit Boone perfectly and he got better as it went on. The opening gave the show its own style and added to Paladin's mystique. The series was one of the first anthology type with a main star in the same role.

It was good; I enjoyed watching it as a kid in the '50s. It tried too hard to be cerebral, though, and was a bit dull and chatty as a result.

reply

It was an adult western that aired at 9:30 pm. It wasn't meant to appeal to kids.

Actually, when I was a child it was quite entertaining; it was after I became an adult that it grew a bit droll. But, I see from your posts that you're a very, *very* devoted fan of the show, which is fine.

reply

True, I am. I don't really recall watching it as a child except for a single episode I saw with my grandmother. Everything I know about HGWT I know from watching reruns. It doesn't really seem to be made to appeal to children...

I have watched this over the years off and on. One thing I have been blowen away with is the top named guess stars.
There is more Gravy about you then the Grave. Scrooge.

Yeah, I'd have to say that it is my favorite western television series. The writers seemed to pack a lot into a 30 minute episode. Of course, you didn't have 20 minutes of commercials per hour of television back then. I don't know if anyone else was ever considered for the part of Paladin, but they hit a home run when they cast Boone.

I've never seen it. Is it on anywhere like the McQueen, Bond, Conner's westerns are?

All three of those were pretty good series; ' The Rifleman ' probably being my favorite of the three. However, Have Gun-Will Travel was on a level of it's own.

P.S. If you want to a really, really great western episode, go to YouTube and enter ' Gunsmoke The Gallows ' in the search window. It's my favorite Gunsmoke episode. If you watch it, get back to me with your verdict.

If you watch ' Jaws ' backwards, it becomes a film about a shark that spits out people until they're forced to open a beach.
