A top 5 Western of all time
First of all, Paladin is one of the most iconic western heroes that was ever on a tv. His character is smart, witty and charming to the ladies. He always knows how to solve a problem, preferrably without violence, but will use it if necessary. I also like how he does expect to be be paid for the job being done. It is his job and that's how he makes his money. On certain occasions he will do it as a return favor for an old friend or do it if a person is really in need and cannot pay for it.
I saw that the episode "The Outlaw" Season 1, Episode 2 is the highest rated of the series. It is easily one of my favorite because the guest star is Charles Bronson. The episode is very well written and both men of the story are men of their word and they both stick to it to the end. Sadly he must gun down Chuck in the end, but it had to happen because Chuck was going to hang anyway. There was disagreement between Paladin and Chuck when they talked about his guilt, but I guess they decided to have the shootout at the end of the episode because the town would have found him guilty. It would have been nice to see Paladin come to his defense and go to the town and try to get him off with a lighter sentence.
Have Gun, Will Travel never lost any of its greatness over the 6 year run. There are only a handful of episodes that I did not enjoy. That happens with almost every show. No show is perfect.I seem to really enjoy the half hour westerns the most of all. Wanted, Dead or Alive is great as well. I love The Rifleman and Tombstone Territory as well. Most of the old hour westerns are very good as well. I would say the comedic epsodes of Bonanza are my favorites from the hour long westerns.
