Stack makes me laugh out loud
His fever dream
His impotence scenes
His low-voiced hoodlum "drunk with a gun" scene
Was there a "Best snicker-inducing performance by a guy over-reaching" award that year?

He was a BAD actor.
shareHe was nominated as best supporting actor for this part so someone thought he did a good job. In fact in reality he had a bigger role than Rock Hudson. Stack was not happy that Anthony Quinn won for Lust for Life because he didn't have as many lines but in reality Quinn was really a suporting actor in that movie while Stack was a main star in Written on the Wind.
shareStack and Dorothy Malone's performances as the neurotic siblings hadn't aged particulary well, but I still love them both, in all their silly 50's campyness.
shareI can't take Stack seriously. Maybe b/c that TV show he hosted? I find nothing endearing about him.
Anyway, It always looks like he has a wayward eye...he never looks at who he is talking to.
He was funnier in Airplane!
