Real Gun(s) On NASA Manned Flights
Used to carry them. Now may be using phasers on the shuttle and flying porta potty. Why? In case someone, to borrow a phrase from Cat Women Of The Moon, contracts "space madness."

shareAs I pointed out on another thread about "NASA" issuing revolvers to the astronauts, there was no NASA at the time. Established Oct 1958. Why carry them? Why not? Anything can happen. As a gunsmith, ex-cop friend of mine used to say, "If it can happen, it ain't paranoid."

On a side note, I read where the Russians carried (and maybe still do) shotguns. The reasoning is when they return, they parachute onto land, and may land in a remote area and have to defend themselves against bears.
