Benny had much more success with his own comedy show than his early appearances as an actor in films like this one. This film shows us why. You can see him playing slight versions off the odd character that later on brought him his television success here in the UK, and surprisingly over the water in the USA.
I watched a repeat of one of his comedy shows recently. How times and comedy have CHANGED THANKFULLY

It took many years for Benny Hill to gain stardom. He found his real character when the TV was turning a bit more saucy. Here he is in an Ealing film which was not quite right for him.

I couldn't noticing a similarity between him and US comic actor Jack Carson. Yesterday I watched Carson playing a private detective in 'Make Your Own Bed. Today I'm watching Benny Hill playing a private detective in this movie.
