When this film was shown on BBC2 it was delayed slightly and my recording missed the final five minutes. I have seen the film many years ago and wondered if anyone could tell me what happened (i.e. is the Lipstick killer caught, what happened to Nancy(!),who got the executive's job, did Vincent Price find out that his wife was playing around...I know this is a lot to ask...Any resolution gratefully received (with warning for Spoilers). Thanks, Francis
If I remember correctly: Dana Andrews gets the killer after chasing him through the subway tunnels; Price finds out about his wife, forgives her but sends her lover- along with the Lupino character- on some promotional/goodwill tour. Andrews marries Sally Forrest and I think he is even made exec...Been a while since I've seen it, hope this is halfway correct and helps ;O)
This might be a little late, but I watched the movie this morning, so I can help you with this:
The Lipstick Killer, after attacking Dorothy and Nancy, runs off, going down into the subway. Ed chases after him, and they fight in the subway, and eventually he gets caught as he tries to emerge to the surface again, because cops are there waiting for him.
Very gradually, the denouement unrolls: Jon Day Griffith (Thomas Mitchell) is made the executive director, Mildred is made a syndicated columnist, and Harry is sent as a goodwill embasssador around the world. Finally, Ed is made the chief editor of the Sentinel.
Tenkun, you're wrong about one thing. Mildred does not become a syndicated columnist. Instead, she gets a job as Harry's "personal assistant" on his goodwill tour.
The last minutes were the best part of the movie. After the scoop is published, down in the bar Dana Andrews rambles on denouncing Vincent Price's character, and continues it even after he realizes Price is overhearing him. Andrews then predicts that Kritzer will get the top job and that he (Andrews) will quit. .. ...***spoilers***** In the next (and last) scene of the movie, Andrews is on his honeymoon in Florida with (drip) Sally Forest, where she reads the NY newspaper (big surprise), that in effect Thomas Mitchell is getting the top job, Andrews is getting the plum job as editor of the NY Sentinel, Kritzer is retiring, and Ida Lapino is getting to be Vincent Price's assistant (mistress).
